Blends with tights, not baggy
by: LILLY - 04/13/2020 - Marysville,WA
Comfort:
Durability:
Fit: Runs very large
The Gaynor Minden ribbon is definitely the best ribbon I've used. I wear Bloch pointe shoes, so I started out trying the Bloch ribbons and elastic which did not match the pointe shoes or blend with the tights. The Gaynor Minden ribbons truly look nice with pink tights (I use revolution or theatricals) and they never look clumpy. They also don't fret from the sides after you burn them, which has been a HUGE problem I've had with other ribbon brands. I'm really pleased with them and have been using them for over a year. I would HIGHLY recommend them!

Does its Job
by: Kara - 10/07/2019
Comfort:
Durability:
Fit: True to size
This ribbon does its job, but frays super easily. I know that using a lighter to burn the ends helps with this, but I would say that this ribbon is less durable than other brands of satin ribbon.

Ribbon arrived with a run already in the middle of the satin
by: ABCD - 01/14/2014
Durability:
This is the 1st time I ordered this ribbon through Discount Dance.
When it arrived and I opened the ribbon, I noticed there was a run in the middle of the satin, not on either of the ends, but right in the middle and the run stretched for about 6". Furthermore, the label wrapper that was wrapped around the ribbon stained the satin ribbon to the color of the wrapper. I felt this was very poor quality.

Best Ribbon!
by: prettyinpointe - 12/03/2013
Comfort:
Durability:
I have Ganyor pointe shoes, so I decided to try the matching ribbon. It was perfect. Not only does it match the color of my shoes, but it is also extremely comfortable. This ribbon is a different material than other ribbons I have tried, much more cushiony and less likely to pull to tight at my Achilles tendon. One pack of ribbons is enough to sew a pair of shoes; however, make sure you burn each side of the ribbons because they do fray really easily.

They DO NOT MATCH
by: GrlEEEgrl - 09/02/2013
Durability:
The ribbons are not even a close match to the Gaynor Minden shoes. I ended up using Grishko ribbons, which were a much closer match.

Fray terribly
by: balletmom74 - 10/04/2012
Durability:
I like that these ribbons are a little thicker than other brands and they feel a lot softer to the touch. However, as some other reviewers have said, these ribbons fray! I would be okay with them fraying at the ends (where all other ribbons fray), but these ones fray along the sides as well! Had to remove these ones and re-sew another brand of ribbons on several occasions now - very disappointing! Not buying these ribbons any more!

I like the colour of these ribbons, but I wish they matched the Gaynor Minden shoes better. But I don't think the colour difference is too noticeable on stage. I love the fact that they are soft and not shiny. Freed's ribbons are just as good though, and in my opinion, this type of ribbons are best. They look better on stage than shiny ribbons. I don't use anything other than these and Freed.

Pretty good
by: Anonymous - 01/20/2008 - Alaska,

I like these ribbons a lot-they do fray quite a bit, but what I do is slightly melt the edges so that they don't fray. Other than that, they match my shoes wonderfully and I have used these on all my pointe shoes.

Love them!

I love these ribbons! After I sew them, they stay really secure and don't tear. Naturally, they fray a little but they hold my pointe shoes really well. I get them every time <3

These ribbons are HORRIBLE! While I was sewing my shoes they were fraying already. They fray down the center of the ribbon and tear if you're not careful. I've had to replace my ribbons before I had to replace my shoes!

Okay, but come undone
by: Katelyn - 03/03/2007
Comfort:
Durability:
These ribbons are very thin and they come undone very easily. When I was doing pointe the other day, I constantly had to stop and tie the shoe again, but for the most part, they were good and sturdy.

This is the softest ribbon out there, which feels great if you're like me and prefer to go without tights in your pointes. It does fray something awful if you don't sew it carefully (I find that just by not tugging at it too much, I can prevent at least half of the fraying problems). Even with careful sewing, it doesn't hold up to re-use on another pair of shoes. It does, however, tie with Capezio as the ugliest color. You know how Capezio's pink is too bubblegummy? This is the opposite, the peach is almost yellow. So, not for performances where it won't match with tights (or shoes). But for daily class wear, comfort means more than aesthetics, so this does just fine for me.

Call me crazy, but I thought ribbons were supposed to match tights and tights were supposed to match pointe shoes. It's meant to look like one totally seamless line down the leg. These don't match anything I own, not tights or shoes. But man, are they soft and comfy! I use these on my "throw away shoes" (the ones that you know won't last you for more than 2 days anyway, like Chacott Veronese II) since they're more comfy for performances. But I wouldn't waste the money on them for class use. I use Freeds for that.

Great for Bloch axiom!
by: Christie - 08/18/2006 - Miami, Fl,
Comfort:
Durability:
This ribbon matches PERFECT with the Bloch axiom or the other pale peach Bloch shoes. But it's also not slippery at all and it's stronger than satin, so it hugs your ankles and the ribbons don't come off. Great if you desire more ankle support but still desire the look of ribbon.

Not the best
by: Anonymous - 04/20/2006
Comfort:
Durability:
While very soft and comfortable against the skin, it rips easily and is an odd golden peach color that doesn't match with any brand of pointe shoes I've ever worn (least of all Gaynor Minden pointes).
